Something is different in Southern Maryland

There’s a crispness in the air.  The leaves are turning vibrant colors of red, brown, and yellow.  And if you listen closely, you will hear a sound that hasn’t been heard here for almost one hundred years.

Did you hear it yet?  You will.  And that sound will start as just a single solitary drop.

When that first drop falls, we will have brought the legal distilling of whiskey, bourbon, and rum back to Southern Maryland.

We are your friends, your relatives, and your neighbors.  We are Tobacco Barn Distillery, and we want you to be a part of this.

The drops are coming, then we will pour.

Let’s keep in touch.

Hi John – We’re a very small distillery in Southern Maryland. If you are in the area, we will be having a tasting Saturday December 3, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Port of Call Liquors in Solomons, MD. Our distillery is not open to the public as we’re on a small working farm, and the insurance premium was too much for us to take on at the moment. Our Rum product is available at liquor stores throughout Maryland. Additionally, our other products are / will be available at select restaurants and liquor stores in Southern Maryland: Nicks of Prince Frederick, Blue Wind, Port of Call Liquors, St. James Deli, The Front Porch, Chief’s, Wildewood Liquors, and the Ruddy Duck. Thanks, and take care – Sean

  1. I have been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any
interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me.

Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did,
the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.

  2. Hi there– just tried to grab some of your bourbon for a Christmas gift. I went to the Homegrown Farm Market on 235. They were out, so we are on the waiting list, but I am wondering if you know of any place locally that might still have some. I am trying to do as many local Christmas gifts this year as possible, and I want to give this to my dad. Thanks!

Hi Wrenn – Apologies for running out of Bourbon. We had such a limited run, we didn’t have enough to give to our retailers. But we still have some of our Rum, which was aged in used bourbon barrels, available. That’ll be as close as we can get for the next couple of weeks. Sean

  3. Saw your video on putting some rum on the Constellation. Cool stuff. I am a rum guy. I also farm and am a limited waterman. I do blacksmith and bladesmith stuff and Maryland has been in my family’s blood for generations. I hung with some pirate guys for a while and being a rum guy I was instantly interested in your stuff. Guess a road trip will be in the works. Let me know when you have another open house and where in Md I can find your stuff. I am in Baltimore. My cousin has a brewery/restaurant in Elliott City and might be interested too.

Hi Larry – Thanks for the note! Our plans are for the Rum to be pulled off of the USS Constellation in March. We’ll then bottle it and, distribute it to various liquor stores and restaurants. Luckily, we are working with our distributor, Baccchus, to make sure there’s availability in Baltimore. Which Brewery / Restaurant does your cousin own in Ellicott City?

  4. Will you be selling small batch barrels after you done using them? I know a few people that would be interested in purchasing them for homebrewing.

Thanks for bringing quality spirits to southern Maryland!

Good morning! There is a chance that we may sell some of the small barrels – but that may not be until Christmas. Stay in touch – Sean

Hi Gilbert – We worked for a few years with many local government offices, then state, and then federal. It wasn’t easy – Sean

  5. Is there any way to reserve or pre-order a couple of bottles of the Constellation rum? Thanks!

Hi Jeff- We’re working to figure this out now. We may have to ask you to reserve a bottle through one of the liquor stores that’s agreed to carry the product. More on that to follow (soon). Thank you for your service and for sponsoring a midshipman! – Sean

Hi Will – The Rye is still quietly ageing and we’d love to have some on your shelf. I’ll send you a separate note. Sean

  6. Now I’m looking forward even more to a return trip to Southern Maryland. I hope to sample your products while I’m there and return to Iowa with a few bottles.

I wish you the greatest success.

  7. Just saw a clip on WJZ (Ron Matz) about the Constellation Rum. I don’t think it said how to get it. Is it being sold at The Emporium in the inner harbor? How much is it? Is Saturday April 1st the only day you can get it?

Hi Donald – It’ll be available in Baltimore on the Constellation on Sunday and Monday evenings from 7:00 until 10:00 pm. If that’s a good time for you, please let me know and I’ll let you know when it’s available elsewhere. Sean

  8. Is there anywhere I can pick up a bottle (or 3) of the CONSTELLATION rum…in Baltimore? I tried your rum at a Navy commissioning party…and just have to get some. (Maybe even some of your “BIG Z”)
I can’t seem to find it, in any of the area liquor stores.
(I’m the pilot on the CONSTELLATION and have been now, for several years. One of these, will be a special bottle, for me!)

Hi Shellie – Unfortunately we are not open to the public. However we will frequently do tastings at Slack Winery in Ridge, MD. We will announce those on Facebook when they occur. Thanks a ton for the note! Sean
