U.S.S. 

Philanthropy is a big part of what we do. So much so that before we finished building out the distillery we decided to donate a substantial portion of our first year’s proceeds to charity. It is the right thing to do and we’re honored to have helped commision the U.S.S. Zumwalt.

In early 2015, we partnered with the U.S.S. Zumwalt Commissioning Committee to support the upcoming commissioning of the the DDG 1000 in Baltimore. We believe paying tribute to Admiral Zumwalt’s legacy and honoring the young women and men that stand in harm’s way to protect us all, to be a noble cause.

We began distilling our “Big Z” Rum in December of 2015. The rum aged in used bourbon barrels until the summer of 2016 when it reached the flavor we were hoping for. The Zumwalt family assisted us with both the design of the Big Z bottle and the wording on its label. In just a few short months, we’ve delivered about 2,000 bottles to many Maryland restaurants, and liquor stores.

The U.S.S. Zumwalt was commissioned on October 15, 2016 in Baltimore. It was a fantastic fall day and provided a fitting send-off for her Captain and Crew. Here are the links to read more about:

Big Z was, and continues to be a huge success. Although this substantial charitable effort has successfully concluded, we’re very excited to tell you about our follow-on project — The U.S.S. Constellation!
